The population in Central America is decreasing. The giant anteater is listed in a threat category in the regional and national Red Lists. It is a population loss of at least 30% over the past 10 years. Scientists estimate that there are only 5,000 Giant Anteaters left.
The Giant anteaters are vulnerable and are decreasing because of the Hunters killing the anteaters for food, and to have it’s fur. Also some things that affect them being vulnerable are habitat destruction, fires, Road kills, it’s predators, dietary, hunters, and low reproduction rates. |
